Sengirės fondas – Ancient Woods Foundation buys a record 39 hectares of forest in Molėtai district

Mano Bank has been part of an amazing project with Sengirės fondas – Ancient Woods Foundation, helping to secure the largest forest plot they’ve ever acquired – a 39.2-hectare area in Molėtai District. It’s a beautiful, ecologically rich area that borders lakes and is home to a wide variety of species.

This forest plot is highly valuable due to its size. Ainius Pivoras, a biologist at Sengirės Fondas, explains that a large, preserved area maintains stable conditions for the resident animals, plants, and fungi. As the forest naturally evolves, it continues to offer suitable habitats for various species. Larger forests also support essential ecological and evolutionary processes, enhancing the ecosystem’s resilience to environmental changes. In contrast, fragmented forests often struggle to sustain these processes, leaving species with fewer places to thrive as their habitats change.

This acquisition was made possible thanks to the support of the community, who generously allocated a portion of their personal income tax, along with corporate partners Žalia Giria, Raštinė, and illustrator Eglė Plytnikaitė. Together, we’re helping to protect these precious natural spaces for future generations.

At Mano Bank, we’re dedicated to building a sustainable future while focusing on finances. That’s why we’re so proud to be part of this initiative. Preserving these ancient forests, which have taken centuries to develop, is crucial for the environment and for all of us who live in it.

It’s inspiring to see what we can achieve when businesses, communities, and organizations come together. This is a step toward a greener, more sustainable Lithuania, and we’re excited to work alongside Sengirės Fondas and all our partners.
